When a picture is worth a thousand words, err…dollars. Here you see why better thermal resolution is important. The three sensor resolutions shown here illustrate how some imagers won’t meet your performance expectations. The 16×16 resolution example was taken from an irisys/wahl unit. Ebay is littered with these junk imagers and as you can see, they are totally unsuitable for the work we do. The next image is from a FLIR/extech i5 (80×80). You can see that the image is tons better than the first example, but the image is still lacking in clarity and appears pixelated. Finally there is the FLIR B2 with a resolution of 120×160. This is what I consider to be the minimum for the kind of work that we do.

As many of you know, over the last year I have been preaching the gospel of Zoom. I have been using my H2 faithfully as my workhorse audio recorder. Honestly, it is hard to find a better value than the H2 given the quality of audio and the many features available at it’s price point (if you go by features vs. price). I still think that the H2 is a much better choice than standard lower end voice recorders…(cont…)
